Brow Lift in New York City

Facial laxity affects people in many different ways; however, some of the most common signs of aging develop on the forehead and around the eyebrows. Deep forehead lines and drooping brows can make you appear older, tired, and stressed, and there will come a time when no amount of makeup will be able to cover it. Brow lift surgery (forehead lift) can significantly reduce or eliminate these signs of aging by repositioning the brow and softening forehead furrows.

Why should I choose New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgical Arts?

What Are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?

Brow lift surgery is performed on women and men to:

  • Restore a youthful appearance
  • Raise the positioning of the brow
  • Smooth fine lines and wrinkles, such as frown lines and vertical forehead creases
  • Alleviate pressure on the upper eyelids that result from heavy brows

Am I a Candidate for Brow Lift Surgery?

Women and men turn to brow lift surgery to address the age-related changes to their forehead and brow area. Candidates for this procedure should be in good health with realistic expectations for their results. These candidates should also be dedicated to maintaining their results with a healthy lifestyle, including good eating habits and healthy skin care routines. Plastic surgery results are not a one-stop solution—they require lifelong care and maintenance.

How Can I Personalize My Brow Lift Surgery?

Brow lift surgery restores natural-looking forehead smoothness and brow contour. This surgery usually takes two to three hours to complete at our Manhattan surgical facility and is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you can return home to recover within a few hours.

How Is Brow Lift Surgery Performed?

Dr. Karlinsky or Dr. Kim will make an incision within your natural hairline. Through this incision, your surgeon will lift and tighten your forehead skin and muscles. These tissues are then redraped and reattached to your bone structure before excess skin is trimmed, and incisions are closed. This technique helps eliminate sagging and wrinkles in the forehead and repositions the eyebrows to a more elevated and contoured position.

Should I Combine My Brow Lift With Eyelid Surgery?

Brow lift surgery is commonly combined with eyelid surgery to address sagging skin and excess fatty deposits in the upper and lower eyelids. While upper eyelid hooding is sometimes the result of a sagging brow, it can also be due to skin laxity on the upper eyelid itself. Eyelid surgery rectifies this situation by trimming excess skin and removing or repositioning the fat pockets in the upper eyelid. The combination of a brow and eyelid lift delivers a harmoniously refreshed look, and is common among many New York patients.

Should I Combine My Brow Lift With a Facelift?

While brow lift surgery revitalizes and refreshes the upper third of the face, it does not address any area beneath the brow. Since most patients experience laxity and the signs of aging across their faces, many benefit from combining their brow lift with a facelift (or a mini facelift) and neck lift. This allows for a balance between the upper and lower regions of the face. Some patients also choose to combine their brow lift with a facial augmentation procedure, such as cheek augmentation, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), ear surgery (otoplasty), or chin augmentation.

What Are Your Concerns?

What Will My Brow Lift Recovery Be Like?

Following your brow lift surgery, you will be sent to relax in our comfortable recovery room until you are cleared to leave—this usually takes a few hours. You should expect to rest at home for several days (up to a week) post-surgery. During this time, we ask that you avoid any vigorous or strenuous movement that may impede the healing process. You should rest with your head elevated to help reduce swelling.

It is common to experience bruising, swelling, tenderness, and tightness after your brow lift.Your surgeon at New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgical Arts will provide you with detailed instructions about what to expect with your recovery.

Most patients have recovered enough to return to work and their daily obligations (including social engagements) after one week. There may still be some bruising and swelling at this time, but this can usually be covered with makeup.

Dr. Karlinsky and Dr. Kim provide all of their patients with their cell phone numbers so that they can be reached at any time during your recovery.

Is Brow Lift Surgery Painful?

General anesthesia will prevent any pain or discomfort during your brow lift. You may experience some minor discomfort in the following hours and days, once the anesthetic has worn off. Any post-operative discomfort can be treated with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication.

Will My Brow Lift Leave Scars?

A hallmark of successful facial surgery is the near invisibility of tell-tale scarring. While there is no way to eliminate the threat of scars, Dr. Karlinsky and Dr. Kim expertly place brow lift incisions in easy-to-conceal locations within the hairline. Any visible scars can be covered with makeup or particular hairstyles and will fade with time.

What Are Some Frequently Asked Questions About Brow Lift Surgery?

When will I see my brow lift results?

Your initial brow lift/forehead lift results will be visible shortly after your surgery and will continue to improve and refine over the following days and weeks as the swelling subsides and the tissues relax. Following your brow lift, you will notice a smoother forehead, reduced depression of frown lines, and an awakened appearance. Even though brow lift surgery addresses the brows and forehead, many patients also see significant improvement in their eye appearance, as heavy brows are no longer crowding the upper eyelids.

How should I prepare for my brow lift?

Your brow lift is performed under general anesthesia, and you will need a companion present to take you home and stay with you for the first one to two days. For your safety, you are required to stop smoking and taking all blood-thinning medication, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, NSAIDs, and herbal supplements, for at least two weeks before and after your brow lift.

What are the risks associated with brow lift surgery?

Brow lift/forehead lift surgery is very safe, especially when performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Karlinsky or Dr. Kim. While rare, complications can arise, including:

  • Negative reactions to the anesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Changes in skin/nerve feeling
  • Prolonged wound healing
  • Poor scarring

You can help minimize these risks by following all of Dr. Karlinsky’s or Dr. Kim’s post-operative instructions.

Will I still look like myself after a brow lift/forehead lift?

Brow lift surgery is performed to restore youthful contours to your forehead and brow. While this procedure restores smoothness, it does not affect your underlying facial structure, and, therefore, will not significantly alter your appearance. This procedure cannot make you look like a different person; however, it can return some of the smoothness you had in your younger years.

Is there a non-surgical alternative to a brow lift?

While there is no non-surgical procedure that can match a brow lift/forehead lift in terms of results, not every patient needs invasive surgery. Dr. Karlinsky and Dr. Kim believe in matching the appropriate patient with the correct procedure, even if that isn’t surgery. While surgical intervention may be recommended to address your aging concerns, some patients benefit more from injectable treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® (neuromodulators that immobilize muscles) or JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® (dermal fillers that restore lost volume).

Are my brow lift results permanent?

While your brow lift results are considered permanent, we cannot prevent the natural aging process. Over time, you may begin to notice the recurrence of fine lines, wrinkles, and forehead laxity. Regardless, these transformative results will last for several years and can often be extended when combined with proper skin maintenance and sun protection.
