Breast Reduction New York

Reduction Mammaplasty in NYC

Disproportionately large breasts can overpower a woman’s figure and cause physical and emotional problems. Big breasted women often struggle with neck, back, and shoulder pain, bra strap indentions, skin chafing and infection, and the inability to perform certain tasks such as jogging. A breast reduction with our female cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Victoria Karlinsky-Bellini, can balance your breasts and body shape and alleviate the issues you’ve faced due to macromastia (abnormally large breasts).

Schedule your one-on-one consultation with triple-board-certified Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini today by calling (646) 559-2854 to see if a breast reduction is right for you. New Look New Life Surgical Arts offers face, breast, and body cosmetic surgeries to patients in Manhattan and nearby NYC areas.

Is Breast Reduction Right for Me?

Debilitating pain and discomfort from overly large breasts can impact your ability to participate in sports and wear certain types of clothing. Many women are self-conscious of their large breast size, and breast reduction can alleviate many, if not all, of these symptoms. Breast reduction can be useful for women of any age who have fully developed breasts. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini also offers male breast reduction for men with gynecomastia, a condition in which breast tissue overdevelops causing enlarged breasts and sensitivity.

During your consultation, Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will listen to your concerns and develop a surgical plan to best accomplish your goals for a well-balanced figure. Your breast reduction surgery in NY will be scheduled shortly after your in-office consultation

The Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast reduction surgery begins with the removal of excess breast tissue from the top and sides of the breast through a series of incisions around the nipples (areolas) to reach the ideal size and shape. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will then reposition and center the breast tissue and nipples to achieve a youthful, lifted placement. Some scarring will be concealed in the darker pigment of the areolas while others will fade over time.

The procedure is performed at our surgical facility and takes approximately three hours. No overnight stay is required. You can rest in our comfortable suite before going home with a friend or family member. You will need help for the first 24-48 hours, and Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini is available to answer any questions or concerns during your recovery. She gives out her cell phone number to patients so you can rest assured you’re in good hands and have the ability to contact your cosmetic surgeon.

As with any invasive surgery, there are some risks with breast reduction, including infection, bleeding, and poor scarring, which is another reason why patients are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini immediately with concerns. The breast reduction procedure overall is a safe and effective way to reduce breast size permanently.

Recovering from Breast Reduction

We understand that our Manhattan patients have busy lifestyles and schedules, and you’ll likely be able to return to work after week one of recovery. You’ll need to get plenty of rest and avoid putting a strain on your new breasts. Avoid bending, stretching, lifting, and running until told otherwise. You will have a follow-up appointment at New Look New Life Surgical Arts the day after your breast reduction and again a week later. Over the following weeks and months, bruising, swelling, and scarring will fade, and nipple sensation will return gradually.

Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will go over your pre- and post-operative instructions. That will include quitting smoking for at least 10-14 days before breast reduction surgery as well as avoiding medications that thin the blood and NSAIDs including aspirin, Advil, Aleve, and Ibuprofen.

Breast Reduction Results

Many of our breast reduction patients are thrilled with their smaller, firmer, and more proportionate breasts. Your results will be noticeable right away, and as you heal, you’ll continue to notice and enjoy the freedom of smaller breasts. You will be able to wear clothing that wasn’t an option before and enjoy activities that were previously painful and limited due to your large breasts.

Breast reduction results are permanent, but weight gain, pregnancy, and other factors can impact your breast size in the future. Some patients may need or want a breast lift, later on, to address breast drooping and sagging that occurs with age and body changes.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

(Mastopexy) in NYC

You are still the same woman you were when you were younger, but sometimes the changes your body goes through after pregnancy or weight loss can have you feeling the opposite. If life has left your breasts sagging and without their once youthful perk, a breast lift with Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini is an effective way to redefine your youthful feminine figure.

What is a breast lift?

Breast lift surgery is simply a lifting and reshaping of the breast skin and tissue to achieve a firmer look and feel. A breast lift alone does not add volume, though it can be performed in conjunction with breast implant surgery for further enhancement of the shape and size of the breasts.

Is a breast lift right for me?

Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini recommends breast lift surgery for women who are happy with the size of their breasts, but not the appearance. Whether the result of aging, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, a loss of skin elasticity can cause the breasts to drop or sag over time. While the size of the breasts may not have changed, the sagging can produce a flattened or deflated look of the breasts. Similarly, women who have lost a large amount of weight may experience sagging from excess skin or loss of elasticity.

How soon can I have a breast lift?

During your consultation with Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini, she will listen to your concerns and help you determine if a lift will achieve your goals on its own. Your surgical appointment may be scheduled a short time after consultation. Call us today at (646) 559-2854 if you have any questions regarding the breast lift procedure or would like to schedule a breast lift consultation, or schedule a consultation online at our Manhattan location. Schedule Consultation Online

When will I see the results of my breast lift?

You will enjoy the results of your breast lift immediately after surgery. However, you will need to wear a small surgical bra or compression garment for a few days to help skin heal correctly.

How should I prepare for a breast lift?

Blood-thinning medication and NSAIDs such as aspirin, Advil® or ibuprofen, Aleve®, and smoking must be avoided 10-14 days before and after surgery.

How is a breast lift performed?

Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will perform your breast lift by making a series of incisions on the breast and around the areola. Each woman is different and, as such, Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini skillfully performs each procedure according to your own unique needs and goals. Most often your New York cosmetic surgeon will pull the breast tissue up and reposition the nipple and areola higher on the breast to create the lifting effect. During this time, she can also address the size or appearance of your areola and nipple.

How long does a breast lift take?

Breast lift surgery takes approximately 2-2.5 hours and can be performed at our surgical center in Manhattan.

Do I have to stay overnight after a breast lift?

There is no need to stay overnight after your procedure, but it is important that a family member or friend is available to drive you home and stay with you to assist you during recovery.

How long does recovery take?

Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini will advise you to rest at home for 2-3 days after surgery before returning to work. You will be somewhat sore and stiff during your recovery and must be careful to avoid straining, lifting, or running. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled with Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini 1 day after surgery and again 7 days after surgery. Nipple sensation will gradually return and scars will diminish in the months following your breast lift.

How soon can I start exercising after a breast lift?

You will need to take caution with your improved breasts after lift surgery, but you should be able to start exercising again within 7-10 days.

What are the breast lift risks?

You are in experienced surgical hands with Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini. However, as with other surgical procedures, complications could include infection, bleeding, or poor scarring. The severity of your breast lift scars will significantly reduce over time. Some visible scars will remain, which are easily covered by clothing and bathing suits.

Patients experiencing any unusual or concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini’s cell phone immediately.

How long will my breast lift results last?

Breast lift surgery results are long lasting, but, depending on your age, you may opt to repeat the surgery after your skin relaxes over many years.

How much does a breast lift cost?

At New Look New Life, breast lift surgery starts as low as $8,500. A fairly competitive price in New York City (NYC) area. You will be given a detailed quote during your consultation. If you think you may be a candidate for breast augmentation New York, contact New Look New Life Surgical Arts by calling (646) 559-2854.

How Long Will a Breast Augmentation take?

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia for your safety and comfort. While every patient and surgery is unique, breast augmentation usually takes an hour to an hour and a half to complete. Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, but you will need to have someone drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 to 48 hours of your recovery.

What Are My Breast Implant Options?

Implant Material

Breast implants have a durable silicone shell and are filled with saline or silicone gel.
  • Silicone implants: These highly customizable and versatile implants are filled with a thick silicone gel that feels and looks like natural breast tissue.
    • Silicone implants are thought to feel and appear more natural than saline
    • The manufacturer prefills silicone implants; therefore, they sometimes require a larger incision
    • We offer the highly cohesive Natrelle® breast implants and Mentor® implants for our breast augmentation patients
  • Saline implants: These implants are filled with a sterile saline (saltwater) solution.
    • Saline implants usually provide a more augmented look
    • Saline implants are filled by your surgeon during the procedure, allowing for a smaller incision

Implant Shape

Silicone implants are available in various shapes that will provide different aesthetic appearances.
  • Round: Round implants are spherical and provide equal fullness to the top and bottom of the breast.
  • Anatomical: Anatomical—or gummy bear—implants have a teardrop shape that is more akin to the shape of natural breast tissue. These implants are made of a thicker gel consistency that better holds its mold.

Implant Texture

  • Smooth: Smooth implants have a soft surface that allows the implant to rotate in the breast pocket. Smooth implants are only recommended for round implants.
  • Textured: Textured implants have a rough surface that attaches to the breast tissue and prevents the implant from rotating in the breast pocket. This is recommended for shaped implants since rotation would cause aesthetic distortion.

Implant Profile

Implant profile determines how your implant will project from your chest. Determination of your implant profile will be influenced by your desired aesthetics as well as your body frame.
  • Low profile: Implants that have a broad base but provide little projection
    • These are ideal for women with a broader chest wall
  • Moderate profile: Implants with a narrower base and more projection
    • These are ideal for women with average-width chest walls
  • High profile: Implants with an even smaller base that provides even more projection
    • These are ideal for women with small chest walls
  • Ultra high profile: Implants with the most narrow base and projection
    • These are ideal for very petite women

Where Will My Implants Be Placed?

Your implants will be placed either above or below the pectoral muscle.
  • Submuscular: The implant will be placed under the pectoralis major muscle.
    • Ideal for women with thin breast tissue
    • Implants may look more natural
    • The surgery and recovery may be longer
    • This is the preferred method of your surgeons at New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgical Arts
  • Subglandular: The implant is between the breast tissue and the chest muscle.
    • Ideal for bodybuilders and weight lifters
    • Implants may be more prone to rippling
    • The surgery and recovery may be shorter

Where Will My Breast Augmentation Incisions Be Made?

Incisions to insert your breast implants will be made in one of the following locations.
  • Inframammary: The inframammary fold is the crease beneath your breast, where the breast connects to the ribcage. An incision is made along this crease for the easy concealment of scarring.
    • This is the preferred incision option, as it reduces the chances of post-operative infection and capsular contracture.
  • Periareolar: The areola is the dark-pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple. A crescent-shaped incision is made in the upper portion of the areola, where the dark pigment will hide the resulting scar.
  • Transaxillary: The incision is made in the armpit, and the implant is tunneled through. Although this incision option results in less post-operative scarring (as the scar is hidden in the armpit), it can be more difficult to place the implant and may not be recommended.

Should I Combine My Breast Augmentation With a Breast Lift?

Many women consider breast augmentation after childbirth to restore the volume lost when nursing. Unfortunately, many women who suffer post-pregnancy volume loss also experience premature breast ptosis (sagging).  Breast lift surgery elevates sagging breasts by tightening the glandular tissues, repositioning the nipple-areola complex, and removing excess skin. Breast lift surgery can often be performed at the same time as breast augmentation for optimal results.

What Is Breast Augmentation With Fat Grafting?

Your surgeons at New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgical Arts offer fat grafting as an organic augmenting alternative to implants. Breast augmentation with fat transfer harvests unwanted body fat and transfers it to the breast.  Fat is usually taken from the abdomen, hips, or thighs, allowing for full body contouring.  This technique cannot increase the volume of the breasts as much as breast implants, but it comes without the risk of implant complications.

What Are Your Concerns?

What Will My Breast Augmentation Recovery Be Like?

Your breasts may be wrapped in a compression garment/surgical bra that will ensure the implants heal in the correct place, reduce swelling, and promote blood circulation.  You should take it easy for the first few days of your recovery, and you may need assistance to help with all day-to-day activities like cooking and cleaning.  Most patients return to work within one week, but strenuous exercise—including pushing, pulling, or lifting anything over 10 pounds—must be limited for at least four to six weeks. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini  and Dr. Kim provide all of their patients with their cell phone numbers so that they can be reached at any time during your recovery.

Is Breast Augmentation Painful?

Breast augmentation creates bruising and swelling, which can be uncomfortable. You will be given a prescription for pain medication to alleviate any discomfort.  Most patients choose to switch to over-the-counter pain medication after a few days. Most of the discomfort should resolve within one week.

Will My Breast Augmentation Leave Scars?

All surgical procedures result in scars, and breast augmentation is no different. Scars will develop at the incision sites, but these scars are easily concealable and will fade over time.  To help minimize scar visibility, you should avoid underwire bras during the healing process (as the wire can irritate the incision), keep the incisions out of the sun, and apply scar cream or silicone strips.

What Does Breast Augmentation Cost in New York?

Your breast augmentation is personalized to you, and this customization—along with your surgeon’s skill and experience—will affect the total cost of your procedure. At New Look New Life Surgical Arts, our breast augmentation starts at $7,500, but this may vary significantly once your implant selection, anesthesia fees, facility fees, and pre-surgical tests are factored into the mix.

We offer financing options through CareCredit® to assist you in paying for your breast augmentation in New York.

What Are Some Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation?

How should I prepare for my breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. Therefore, you will need to stop taking all blood-thinning medications—like aspirin, NSAIDs, or herbal supplements—before your operation. You will also be asked to stop smoking for at least two weeks before and after your breast augmentation. Following these recommendations will reduce your risk of complications during your surgery.

Can I have breast augmentation before I have children?

Breast augmentation will not affect your pregnancy or your children; however, many women experience breast changes during pregnancy that affect the overall quality of their breast enhancement results.  Pregnancy after breast augmentation may necessitate a secondary breast procedure like a breast revision or a breast lift to restore a more attractive breast aesthetic.

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Most women experience no difficulty breastfeeding their child following breast augmentation. Traditionally, breast implants do not damage or interfere with the connection between the nipples and the milk ducts.  If you are planning on having children following your breast augmentation and are interested in breastfeeding, let your surgeon know during your consultation.

What are the risks associated with breast augmentation?

Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini and Dr. Kim have over a decade’s worth of experience specializing in breast augmentation. While complications are not expected to occur after this procedure, breast augmentation is still invasive surgery, and complications are possible.  Potential physical complications include:
  • Negative reactions to the anesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Abnormal firmness
  • Blood clots
  • Seroma
  • Prolonged wound healing
  • Capsular contracture
  • Implant rupture
  • Implant displacement
Potential aesthetic complications include:
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Unfavorable scarring

What is capsular contracture, and how can I identify it?

Capsular contracture is a potential implant complication that develops when the scar tissue surrounding the implant begins to contract. This squeezing of the implant leads to both aesthetic distortion and physical discomfort. Capsular contracture requires the removal of the implant and scar tissue capsule; however, a new, healthy implant can be placed after. There is no way to prevent capsular contracture, but breast implant massages are thought to decrease your risk.

What should I do if I notice an aesthetic change in my breast?

Implants are long lasting, but they are not guaranteed to last a lifetime. Implant complications like capsular contracture, implant rupture, and implant displacement can occur at any time. If you notice breast asymmetry, lumps in the breasts, or changes in implant position, or if you develop any breast pain, see your surgeon right away.  Breast revision may be necessary to correct implant-related complications.

Do breast implants increase my breast cancer risk?

No. Breast implants are not associated with breast cancer and do not increase your breast cancer risk in any way. Because it may be more challenging to perform self-breast exams, you must see your doctor for routine mammograms and MRIs.  Mammograms can still be performed with breast implants, and breast implants will not be damaged during the procedure.
