Should You Combine Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedures?

4 Minute Read:

Female sexual wellness encompasses everything related to your genital health, libido, level of physical satisfaction, emotional response, and more.

If you experience frequent discomfort, reduced sexual pleasure, or are unhappy with your vagina or vulva’s appearance, several vaginal rejuvenation procedures can help, many of which work together for the best results.

Sexual wellness problems can include emotional components, and, if applicable, it’s important to seek counseling while also investigating physical causes.

7 Ways to Improve Your Sexual Health

The following seven procedures can work alone or be combined to improve female sexual wellness by treating cosmetic, structural, and functional issues:

1. Labiaplasty

You can be genetically predisposed to having a large labia minora (inner lips), or it can become stretched out during childbirth and with age. An enlarged labia minora that protrudes past the outer lips can cause discomfort during sex, irritation when walking or exercising, and embarrassment.

Labiaplasty (labia reduction) is designed to remove excess tissue, reducing the length and width of the labia minora to relieve these symptoms and correct any pre-existing asymmetry.

2. Vaginoplasty

During childbirth, vaginal muscles and tissues are stretched significantly to allow enough room for the baby to be born. Unfortunately, these tissues rarely return to normal without intervention and can lead to sexual dysfunction.

A vaginoplasty is performed to tighten the vaginal opening and canal by reconnecting the separated muscles, removing excess skin and tissue, and suturing it back together.

3. Clitoral Hood Reduction

A clitoral hood reduction is performed to remove the extra skin fold within the clitoral hood.

This surgery reduces the size of a large clitoral hood and is often combined with a labiaplasty to maintain its balance with the smaller labia minora.

4. Perineoplasty

A perineoplasty addresses the perineum (the area between your vagina and anus), which can also be stretched out or torn during childbirth or trauma.

A new mother's legs are spread, allowing her baby to be born.

This procedure is designed to restore vaginal function and sexual satisfaction by tightening muscles and surrounding tissue.

5. Revision Of Episiotomy

An episiotomy helps prevent vaginal tearing during childbirth, which can lead to many cosmetic and functional problems. However, the episiotomy itself can cause complications such as swelling, painful intercourse, infection, and in severe cases, fecal incontinence.

During a revision, the poorly healed episiotomy is opened and carefully resutured. Revision of episiotomy is designed to prevent future stress on vaginal tissues, eliminate symptoms, and restore function.

The above procedures can correct structural flaws or damage to the vagina caused by childbirth and are often combined to restore sexual pleasure, reduce discomfort, or make cosmetic improvements.

6. Hymenoplasty

An intact hymen (the membrane that covers the vaginal opening) is associated with virginity, but a ruptured hymen can be caused in many ways. Many girls tear their hymens when engaging in vigorous exercise, riding their bicycles, or inserting tampons.

Women may wish to have a torn hymen repaired because of customs related to their religion or culture. However, some women have other highly personal reasons for seeking this procedure.

A hymenoplasty is a simple surgical procedure to restore a torn hymen. Any sexual activity involving the vaginal is prohibited for several weeks following this procedure to allow complete healing. After recovery, when the woman has sexual intercourse, her hymen will bleed as though it had never been injured or penetrated.

Women who have given birth vaginally are not candidates for hymenoplasty.

7. Vaginal Relaxation (Sexual Dysfunction/Vaginismus Treatment)

Vaginismus causes involuntary muscle spasms of the pelvic floor to occur during sexual intercourse, while inserting a tampon, or undergoing a gynecological examination.

While it is considered to be psychologically based, the following treatments can help:

  • Sexual counseling – Getting to the root of the problem is essential. Therapy and sexual counseling is the best way to uncover the cause of sexual dysfunction.
  • BOTOX® – This neuromodulator treats vaginismus by relaxing the vaginal muscles completely and preventing involuntary contractions.
  • Vaginal dilators – These dilators come in different sizes to help women desensitize their vaginal muscles. The goal is to gradually allow smooth penetration.
  • Kegel exercises – Exercising vaginal muscles helps women gain more control over them.

A customized treatment combination is the best approach to cure vaginismus or significantly reduce symptoms.
