Manhattan woman holds orange peel to thigh indicating cellulite treatmentCellulite is a frustrating skin concern that plagues between 80 and 90 percent of women. This unsightly dimpling of the skin affects those of any age and body type and successful treatments were once hard to come by—Radiesse®, a dermal filler made of Calcium Hydroxylapatite, offers long-lasting relief from cellulite by enhancing the quality and firmness of the overlying skin. At New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgical Arts, we’re offering Radiesse for cellulite treatment as our November special so that you can achieve smooth skin in time for the winter holidays.

What is Cellulite?

Your skin has multiple layers. The epidermis is the surface layer of your skin which creates our skin tone and protects the dermis, or underlying layer, from everyday exposures. The dermis houses sweat glands, hair follicles, and connective tissue. Beneath those skin layers is the hypodermis that contains fat and deeper connective tissues. Connective tissues provide the scaffolding, or backbone, of your skin. The dimpled, orange peel texture of cellulite occurs when fat beneath the skin herniates or pushes through the connective tissues, causing visible depressions through the skin’s surface.

Some cellulite research suggests it has a genetic component but the true cause is still unknown. Cellulite mainly appears in areas of the lower body, including the abdomen, pelvis, buttocks, and thighs. Radiesse is a minimally invasive procedure that smoothens the skin’s surface, eliminating unsightly cellulite for up to a year or longer.

How Does Radiesse Treat Cellulite?

While many of the available dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, the Radiesse product is made of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHa) and houses microspheres in the injectable gel, which strengthens the structure of your skin. CaHa is a well-known way to treat scarring such as keloid and acne scars because of its ability to smoothen skin irregularities, making the new generation dermal filler an ideal option for cellulite treatment.

The CaHa contained in Radiesse also stimulates your body to produce more collagen. Collagen is one of the proteins in your body responsible for youthful, taut skin, and you naturally start to produce less and less of it as you age. By promoting collagen production, Radiesse provides long-lasting results as new collagen maintains the fullness initially provided by CaHa.

The Radiesse cellulite treatment takes 15-30 minutes to complete and requires no downtime. Our triple-board-certified cosmetic surgeon will use a needle containing the injectable to break up the connective tissues where fat has bulged through and inject Radiesse into the area to add volume to the dimpled skin. Some patients experience bruising, which dissipates within two weeks.

Radiesse is typically used to treat facial lines and wrinkles between the brows, around the mouth and nose as well as volume restoration in the cheeks. This unique filler is used for hand rejuvenation and to restore volume to the earlobes due to heavy earring wear.
