Types of Liposuction Procedures

Dr. Karlinsky performs both surgical and non-surgical fat removal procedures at her practice. If you are bothered by stubborn fat in certain areas of the body and are not looking for a quick fix weight loss solution, liposuction may be the perfect body contouring procedure for you. Here is a closer look at different liposuction procedures available at our office:

Traditional Liposuction

Traditional liposuction can be performed under general or local anesthesia. The procedure will remove stubborn fatty pockets permanently to reshape and contour the body. Dr. Karlinsky will make small incisions around the treatment area and insert a cannula to extract the fat cells. Patients in good health who are under the age of 40 may be good candidates for liposuction. We can target problem areas including the hips, thighs, buttocks, midsection, saddlebags, arms, chest, ankles, knees, and calves with this body contouring procedure.

Tickle Lipo (Lunchtime Lipo)

Tickle Lipo, also known as Lunchtime Lipo, is performed under local anesthesia and is a less invasive alternative to traditional liposuction. Dr. Karlinsky uses a laser-free and heat-free oscillating wand to remove excess body fat in certain areas of the body. This is an FDA-approved liposuction procedure and can address problem areas including the buttocks, saddlebags, hips, thighs, arms, chest, ankles, and calves. This procedure boasts a faster recovery time than traditional liposuction and may also be a cost-effective option for patients that only need a minimal amount of fat removed.

Liposonix

Liposonix is a non-surgical alternative to traditional liposuction and serves as a body contouring procedure for men and women who just want to slim down by a few inches without surgery. We can target body fat in problem areas including the love handles, the thighs, and the back. Some patients get the best results with a series of Liposonix treatments. This procedure involves delivering high-intensity ultrasound therapy deep into the tissues to disrupt and destroy the fatty tissue. Most patients see results within 12 weeks of their first treatment. Liposuction Recovery

Recovery times after liposuction vary by patient but most patients need to take a few days off work as the swelling and bruising is resolved. You will need to wear a compression garment after surgery to ensure that the tissues heal properly and to reduce some of the swelling. Complete recovery from liposuction typically takes a few weeks and you will see progressive results as the swelling is resolved and the tissues heal.

Most patients can return to their regular routine within days of surgery and are advised to wait at least a week or several weeks before resuming any type of strenuous exercise routine. We encourage you to start walking or performing light cardio right away because this can help with circulation and healing.

Liposuction Cost Information

The cost of liposuction in NYC varies by patient and the type of technique we use. We will provide detailed cost information during your consultation. The following factors can influence the cost of your procedure:

  • Treatment areas
  • Hospital or surgical suite fees
  • Anesthesiologist fees
  • Surgeon you work with
  • Type of liposuction technique performed
  • Compression garments
  • Herbal supplements or prescription medications

We can provide you with a cost estimate during your consultation with Dr. Karlinsky. In some cases, treating multiple areas on the same visit can reduce overall costs because the patient will only need to pay the anesthesiologist and surgical suite or hospital fees once. We can review all of your options in more detail during your consultation.

Liposuction Results – What to Expect

Results with liposuction are permanent because the fat cells have been removed completely. If you do end up gaining weight after your procedure, you will notice the fat will be redistributed to areas that were not treated with surgery. This can create a disproportionate figure so we advise patients to undergo surgery when they are at or close to their ideal weight. You may have some residual swelling for a few months after a cosmetic procedure like liposuction so it is important to be patient for the full result.
