Rita Shats, M.D.
Board-Certified Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Instructor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at New York Medical College
Dr. Rita Shats is highly-trained cosmetic gynecologist and a passionate advocate for women, believing that no woman should have to suffer from vaginal or sexual concerns and as importantly, the loss of self-confidence. She says, “There are so many advanced treatments we can use to solve women’s problems today – whether it’s aesthetic, pain-related or concerning function, often balancing all three. Women’s issues are no longer in the shadows and I’m proud to be able to give women back their lives. Most women don’t know how many options they have. I can change that.”
“I serve all women. Straight, gay, young, older, from every ethnicity, and every race – everyone! Women are women. They are entitled to a perfect vagina.”
Dr. Shats does wonders for conditions that are widely known such as the need for vaginal rejuvenation, menopausal problems, sexual dysfunction, vaginal dryness, laxity, chronic inflammation, or pain and so much more. But she is just as skilled at working with less well-known conditions being passionate about patients who have experienced trauma like rape and women from other countries who have suffered female circumcision and are incapable of experiencing pleasure. Dr. Shats has non-surgical and surgical treatments for these and many more life-altering conditions. “I do the least invasive treatment first using lasers, injections etc. and only turn to surgery when it is absolutely necessary,” says Dr. Shats.
“So many of my patients used to think there couldn’t be a solution to THEIR problem. I ask them, ‘what can I do for you that no one has done?”
Dr. Shats is open and honest and encourages her patients to feel comfortable and safe so they can share their truth. She needs to understand the full story in order to help women and their partners. Is intercourse painful? Is she embarrassed by the look of her vagina? Is she unable to achieve orgasm? The doctor says, “Often I suggest to my patients that they bring their partners to appointments. Women’s problems are couple problems too. She said, “Women live longer and want to be active and that includes sexually.” If you want the truth about a concern, you can count on Dr. Shats will be completely honest.
“I felt that the field of female vaginal health was underserved and overlooked.”
In her years delivering babies, Dr. Shats did some vaginal rejuvenation right on the spot. “Why, she asks, should a woman’s vagina show and feel the effects of childbirth when I can keep that from happening?” Because she saw such a huge need that was not being fulfilled, she made vaginal rejuvenation a major component of her practice along with dozens of other treatments. This is, of course, the most intimate field of medicine. It takes a trustworthy person to build connection and trust.
“I love my work. Positive energy feeds me.”
Dr. Shats is an instructor, wife, and mother of two. She speaks proudly about every element of her life: her wonderful daughters; the joy she feels when she sees smiles on her patients’ faces.. Her energy, boldness and personality have made her a beloved member of the New Look New Life family.
