Asclera
The Varicose and Spider Vein Solution
Varicose veins on your legs can make you feel self-conscious, especially when warm weather calls for wearing bathing suits, shorts, dresses, or skirts. While you may feel as though you’re the only one with them, varicose and spider veins are in fact among the most common chronic conditions in North America and Western Europe. Indeed, a large U.S. survey reported that 27 percent of the American adult population had some form of venous disease in their legs. It is estimated that at least 20 to 25 million Americans have varicose veins.
Asclera at New Look New Life
At New Look New Life, we offer Asclera (polidocanol), a prescription medicine that is used in a procedure called sclerotherapy to treat two types of veins:
- Uncomplicated spider veins (very small varicose veins ≤ 1 mm in diameter)
- Uncomplicated small varicose veins (1 to 3 mm in diameter) known as reticular veins
Asclera is a sclerosing agent that is injected into the vein. It works by causing blood platelets to attach to the lining of the vessels; eventually, cellular debris and platelets cause the blood vessel to clot. Over time, the clotted vein will be replaced with normal tissue.
The vast majority of patients are happy with the results. In clinical trials, 86% of patients on average were satisfied or very satisfied with their Asclera treatment. A typical session lasts 15 to 45 minutes. One injection is usually administered per inch with multiple injections per session. Following treatment compression stockings or support hose should be worn continuously for 2-3 days and for 2-3 weeks during the day time.
