Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)

Male breat reductionWhat is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the condition of enlarged breasts in men. You may be surprised to learn that gynecomastia affects as many as 60% of men and can occur on one side of the chest or both. For some men, the condition is genetic. For others, certain medications or drug use may be the cause.

Is male breast reduction right for me?

Gynecomastia can cause significant self-esteem issues in men. Many men work diligent through exercise and diet but are unable to correct the appearance of enlarged breasts. Dr. Karlinsky is highly skilled in performing successful male breast reduction surgery to create a firmer, flatter chest with a more masculine contour

How soon can I have male breast reduction?

You will be invited to Dr. Karlinsky’s office for an initial consultation and review of the procedure. During this appointment a date for your surgery will be scheduled.

When will I see the results of breast reduction?

Your male breast reduction surgery will yield immediate results. Men are often astounded at the significant change in their chest and their more confident outlook on life.

How should I prepare for male breast reduction surgery?

Depending on the degree of gynecomastia, the procedure may be performed under local or general anesthesia. Blood thinning medication and NSAIDs such as aspirin, Advil® or ibuprofen, and Aleve® must be avoided 10-14 days before and after surgery. Smoking must also cease during this time period.

How is male breast reduction performed by Dr. Karlinsky?

If your surgery will be performed using only liposuction, Dr. Karlinsky will make a very small incision on each side of your chest from which she’ll remove the excess fat. If more extensive tissue removal is needed she will make incisions in the peri-areola position for inconspicuous healing. Your chest will be tightened and contoured with careful attention to natural, masculine results.

How long does breast reduction surgery take?

Dr. Karlinsky’s breast reduction for men takes approximately 1-1.5 hours.

Do I have to stay overnight after male breast reduction?

No overnight stay is needed, but you should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after the surgery and assist you.

How long does recovery take?

Just after the procedure you will wear a tight male vest for compression; this is easily hidden under normal clothing. If only liposuction was performed, you will back to work the next day. If more extensive tissue was removed, you will be able to return to work within 2-3 days. In either case, you should avoid strenuous activity for 7-10 days. Soreness and tightness will gradually decrease as will the appearance of your scars. In most cases, scars will heal very well and be barely visible.

How soon can I start exercising after male breast reduction surgery?

Dr. Karlinsky advises that men wait 7-10 days before resuming exercise routines.

What are the male breast reduction risks?

Male breast reduction is highly safe in Dr. Karlinsky’s hands. As with other surgeries, complications may include bleeding, infection, and poor scarring. Occasionally, asymmetry may occur and can be corrected with a follow-up procedure.

Patients experiencing any unusual or concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky’s cell phone immediately.

How long will my male breast reduction results last?

Forever! You will enjoy your new, firmer chest as long as you take care of it. It is important to note that extreme weight gain could cause your gynecomastia to return.

How much does male breast reduction cost?

The drastic and life-changing results of this procedure make it very worthwhile for most men. Dr. Karlinsky will explain all costs to you during consultation.
