Blepharoplasty is cosmetic surgery to rejuvenate the look of the eyes by removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid or lower eyelid. Through skilled eyelid surgery, Dr. Karlinsky will help you appear younger and better rested by bringing to light the natural beauty of your eyes.
Is eyelid surgery right for me?
At New Look, New Life in Manhattan, NY, Dr. Karlinsky recommends blepharoplasty for men and women who wish to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, bags under the eyes, or dark circles under the eyes. Eyelid surgery is designed to address excess or sagging skin above or below the eye that causes puffiness or droopiness and in some cases can even impair vision. By smoothing and tightening the eye area, Dr. Karlinsky gives her patients a youthful, more refreshed look!
When can I have eyelid surgery?
Dr. Karlinsky will conduct a thorough consultation with you and recommend the best treatment. Following this review you may schedule a convenient appointment for eyelid surgery.
How soon will I see results after my eyelid surgery?
The results of your eyelid surgery are immediate and you will continue to see improvement as swelling subsides in the weeks following the procedure.
How should I prepare for eyelid surgery?
Little preparation is needed for your eyelid surgery, though you will be instructed to avoid smoking, blood thinning medication, and NSAIDs such as aspirin, Advil® or ibuprofen, and Aleve® for 2 weeks before and after surgery.
Upper blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Karlinsky’s office operating room, while lower blepharoplasty is done under general anesthesia at her surgical center. You will experience little discomfort after the procedure, but for safety you should arrange for a ride home.
How is blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Karlinsky?
Dr. Karlinsky will plan your eyelid surgery to address your unique concerns. During upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Karlinsky is careful to place the incision at the natural fold of your eyelid for more inconspicuous healing. From this point she will remove fatty tissue and excess skin as needed, creating a lift effect. Similarly, Dr. Karlinsky hides the incision for lower eyelid surgery just below the lower lash line. Extra skin, fatty tissue, and sometimes muscle are removed through this incision to eliminate under eye bags. If only fatty tissue is to be removed from the lower lid, Dr. Karlinsky may make the incision inside the lower lid, though this scarless procedure does not address excess skin.
How long does eyelid surgery take?
Eyelid surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours, depending on the targeted areas.
Do I have to stay overnight after eyelid surgery?
No overnight stay is needed. Dr. Karlinsky’s eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure that requires only a short rest in our comfortable recovery suite.
How long does recovery take?
You will experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes after surgery. Resting with your head elevated can help reduce this more quickly. In some patients the swelling causes temporary blurring of vision that resolves itself as the skin around the eyes heals. Dr. Karlinsky may recommend the use of eye drops to help with any dryness or itching of the eyes. Within 7-10 you should feel comfortable enough to resume your normal activities.
How soon can I start exercising?
You will be advised to avoid physical activity for one week following surgery to reduce the risk of bleeding.
What are the eyelid surgery risks?
Dr. Karlinsky’s eyelid surgery is highly safe and effective. During your consultation she will provide you with a thorough overview of potential outcomes. The risk of complications from eyelid surgery could include infection, poor scarring, and bleeding.
Patients experiencing any unusual or concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky’s cell phone immediately.
How long will my eyelid surgery results last?
Eyelid surgery results are permanent, though lifestyle and hereditary factors may impact your long-term results. Fat that is removed to address puffiness is gone for good; however, through the natural aging process you may notice a relaxing of the skin around the eyes in the future.
How much does eyelid surgery cost?
Eyelid surgery costs vary by patients and will be outlined in detail during your consultation.
