Cheek Augmentation
What is cheek augmentation?
Cheek augmentation is a cosmetic facial surgery that uses cheek implants to create the appearance of stronger cheekbones or fuller cheeks.
Is cheek augmentation right for me?
Both men and woman who wish to strengthen their cheekbone area may opt for permanent cheek augmentation surgery. Aging often reduces the fullness and tautness of cheeks, but through cheek augmentation Dr. Karlinsky creates the fuller, more youthful appearance patients desire. Those who want fuller cheeks might try
filler injections first and then opt for the permanent results that cheek implants provide. Cheek augmentation can also be performed in conjunction with
other facial procedures such as a
facelift.
When can I have cheek augmentation?
Your cheek augmentation can be scheduled just a short time after your in-office consultation with Dr.
Karlinsky.
How soon will I see results after my cheek augmentation?
Cheek implant results are immediate and as with
other cosmetic procedures you will continue to see improvements throughout the healing process.
How should I prepare for cheek augmentation?
Blood thinning medication and NSAIDs such as aspirin, Advil® or ibuprofen, and Aleve® must be avoided for 2 weeks before and after surgery. Dr. Karlinsky also requires that you quit smoking for the month surrounding your procedure.
How is cheek augmentation performed by Dr. Karlinsky?
The location and size of your cheek implant will be determined at your consultation. During your cheek augmentation surgery, Dr. Karlinsky will insert the cheek implant through a small incision in your mouth. She will expertly anchor the implant within a secure pocket of the cheek, permanently affixing it to the bone.
How long does cheek augmentation take?
Cheek augmentation surgery takes approximately 1-1.5 hours.
Do I have to stay overnight after cheek augmentation?
No, cosmetic cheek augmentation does not require a hospital stay. After recovering comfortably in our surgical center, you should have a friend or relative drive you home.
How long does recovery take?
Immediately after cheek augmentation surgery, patients often report a sensation similar to the numbness felt after a dental procedure. The next day, normal feeling will return to your cheeks and mouth, though you will continue to experience some soreness due to swelling. Dr. Karlinsky may recommend a soft food diet to ease comfort and healing. Some tightness will also be felt in the cheeks as your skin adapts to the new, fuller shape.
How soon can I start exercising?
Light exercise can begin as soon as you feel able, though more strenuous activities should be avoided for one week following your cheek augmentation. Dr. Karlinsky will provide specific guidelines regarding sports that involve physical contact.
What are the cheek augmentation risks?
Beyond the temporary changes in cheek sensation, the rare risks associated with cheek augmentation surgery may include bleeding, poor scarring, shifting of the implant, and infection.
Patients experiencing any unusual or concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky’s cell phone immediately.
