Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

What is a breast lift?

Breast lift surgery is simply a lifting and reshaping of the breast skin and tissue to achieve a firmer look and feel. A breast lift alone does not add volume though it can be performed in conjunction with breast implant surgery.

Is a breast lift right for me?

Dr. Karlinsky recommends breast lift surgery for women who are happy with the size of their breast but not the appearance. Whether the result of aging, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, a loss of skin elasticity can cause the breasts to drop or sag over time. While the size of the breasts may not have changed, the sagging can produce a flattened or deflated look. Similarly, women who have lost a large amount of weight may experience sagging from excess skin or loss of elasticity.

How soon can I have a breast lift?

During your initial consultation with Dr. Karlinsky she will listen to your concerns and help you determine if a lift alone will achieve your goals. Your surgical appointment may be scheduled a short time after consultation.

When will I see the results of my breast lift?

You will enjoy the results of your breast lift immediately after surgery.

How should I prepare for a breast lift?

Blood thinning medication and NSAIDs such as aspirin, Advil® or ibuprofen, Aleve®, and smoking must be avoided 10-14 days before and after surgery.

How is a breast lift performed by Dr. Karlinsky?

Dr. Karlinsky will perform your breast lift by making a series of incisions on the breast and around the areola. Each woman is different and, as such, Dr. Karlinsky skillfully performs each procedure according to your unique needs. Most often she will pull the breast tissue up and reposition the nipple and areola higher on the breast to create the lifting effect. During this time she can also address the size or appearance of your areola and nipple.

How long does a breast lift take?

At her surgical centers in Brooklyn and Manhattan, Dr. Karlinsky’s breast lift surgery takes approximate 2-2.5 hours.

Do I have to stay overnight after a breast lift?

There is no need to stay overnight after your procedure, but is it important that a family member or friend be available to drive you home and stay with you to assist you during recovery.

How long does recovery take?

Dr. Karlinsky will advise you to rest at home for 2-3 days after surgery before returning to work. You will be somewhat sore and stiff during your recovery and must be careful to avoid straining, lifting, or running. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled with Dr. Karlinsky for 1 day and 7 days after surgery. Nipple sensation will gradually return and scars will diminish in the months following your breast lift.

How soon can I start exercising after a breast lift?

You will need to take caution with your improved breasts after lift surgery, but should be able to start exercising again within 7-10 days.

What are the breast lift risks?

You are in highly experienced surgical hands with Dr. Karlinsky, though as with other surgical procedures complications could include infection, bleeding, or poor scarring. The severity of your breast lift scars will significantly reduce over time, though visible scars will remain and are easily covered by clothing and bathing suits.

Patients experiencing any unusual or concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky’s cell phone immediately.

How long will my breast lift results last?

Breast lift surgery results are permanent, though depending on your age you may opt to repeat the surgery after your skin relaxes over many years.

How much does a breast lift cost?

Your breast lift investment will be reviewed in detail during your consultation.

What are Dr. Karlinsky’s patients saying after a breast lift?

Dr. Karlinsky’s patients are thrilled with the more youthful appearance and firmness of their breasts after lift surgery. See what they’re saying: http://www.smilereminder.com/vs/new_look_new_life_surgical_arts.

What are the alternatives to a breast lift?

While breast lift surgery works very well for some woman, others desire more fullness that can only be achieved through breast implants or fat transfer surgery. Dr. Karlinsky is very adept at each of these procedures and may recommend combining one of them with your breast lift for the most pleasing results.
