Liposuction
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is cosmetic surgery to permanently and safely remove excess fat from areas of the body that are resistant to reduction in size or toning through diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a quick fix for weight loss, but rather a highly successful method of recontouring your “problem” areas.
At New Look, New Life in Manhattan, NY,
Dr. Karlinsky is highly skilled in liposuction for patients in need of contouring and stubborn fat removal, as well as those who are morbidly obese and require significant, staged fat removal. Patients desiring minimal fat reduction may consider
Tickle Lipo or
Lunchtime Lipo.
Why choose liposuction?
- Body contouring and overall slimming
- Permanent fat removal
- Fat reduction and size reduction of all areas of the body
- Staged fat removal for the morbidly obese
Is liposuction right for me?
Liposuction is a very effective fat removal and fat reduction procedure to women and men. Dr. Karlinsky is highly skilled in liposuction to slim the abdomen, love handles, thighs, hips, buttocks, back, arms, chest, face, calves, and ankles. Those in good health who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet are the best candidates for liposuction. In patients diagnosed as morbidly obese, significant weight loss can be achieved through a series of more substantial liposuction procedures.

What are the differences between liposuction for women and liposuction for men?
Both
men and women benefit from the slimming results of cosmetic liposuction surgery. Preparation and recovery are consistent for most men and women. Dr. Karlinsky is well versed in the nuances of men’s and women’s bodies, and is dedicated to ensuring the most natural results through the contouring of feminine curves in women and more masculine lines in men.
When can I have liposuction?
Patients in good medical standing who are under the age of 40 can schedule their liposuction procedure with Dr. Karlinsky shortly after their consultation and blood tests. Men and women over the age of 40, or those with other medical considerations, will be referred to their general practitioner for clearance before scheduling liposuction.
How soon will I see results after my liposuction?
Liposuction results are immediate, though the natural healing process varies from patient to patient. Dr. Karlinsky’s expertise and collaboration with you prior to the procedure will ensure that you have a complete understanding of the recovery process and realistic expectations for your post-surgery results.
As a highly trained
cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Karlinsky is dedicated to appropriate fat removal and maintains a strong commitment to your natural appearance. During liposuction she pays extreme attention to consistent, even fat removal and natural contouring.
Immediately after the procedure you will notice a significant size reduction in the areas where fat was removed. The day after the procedure you will see even greater improvement as swelling subsides, and within a few weeks your skin will adjust to your body’s new shape. It is important to understand that liposuction removes fat, but not cellulite. Liposuction does not eliminate the appearance of cellulite.
In just a couple short weeks your liposuction will be a distant memory and you will be enjoying a slimmer, more confident you!
How should I prepare for liposuction?
Blood thinning medication and NSAIDs such as aspirin, Advil® or ibuprofen, and Aleve® must be avoided 10-14 days before and after surgery. If you are a smoker, Dr. Karlinsky will insist that you stop smoking 2 weeks before and after liposuction to improve post-surgery healing.
Unless your liposuction is being performed under general anesthesia you may enjoy a healthy breakfast the morning of your procedure. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and arrange for a ride home.
How is liposuction performed by Dr. Karlinsky?
Dr. Karlinsky will perform your liposuction herself from start to finish. You will remain in her skilled hands from consultation through post-operative care, and she will be accessible for any questions or concerns you have prior to or following the procedure.
In-office procedures are performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Karlinsky’s
Brooklyn office. You will feel only mild discomfort from the numbing injection. During the procedure patients usually report a vibrating or tickling sensation and some mild pressure as Dr. Karlinsky shapes and contours your body.
For more significant fat removal, Dr. Karlinsky performs liposuction on patients under general anesthesia at her surgical center in
Brooklyn and in
Manhattan.
How long does liposuction take?
For most patients, liposuction takes only and hour to an hour and a half. If several areas of the body are being treated, your procedure may last longer.
Do I have to stay overnight after liposuction?
No, liposuction performed under local or general anesthesia is a same-day procedure. In-office patients typically leave the office a half-hour after the procedure is complete. Surgical center patients usually rest comfortably in recovery for a few hours.
How long does recovery take?
If your liposuction is performed under local anesthesia you can head right back to work or continue your daily activities. Your very small incision will be covered with a small bandage to protect your clothing. You will notice some leaking from the incision for roughly 10-15 hours. This is simply numbing fluid that was used during the procedure. If your liposuction is done under general anesthesia you will feel groggy and should return home to rest.
How soon can I start exercising after liposuction?
Dr. Karlinksy recommends that you take it easy for a week after the procedure. You should feel comfortable enough to resume your exercise routine after 7-10 days.
What are the liposuction risks?
Liposuction in the hands of Dr. Karlinsky is highly successful and very safe, though the decision to have liposuction surgery must be carefully considered. Liposuction risks may include infection, bleeding, and skin irregularities. Dr. Karlinsky will discuss all risks with you during your detailed consultation.
Patients experiencing any unusual or concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Karlinsky’s cell phone immediately.
How long will my liposuction results last?
Liposuction fat removal is permanent. Fat cells will not re-grow in the areas where liposuction was performed, though weight gain in other parts of the body is certainly possible. Dr. Karlinsky stresses that patients must protect their investment and avoid uneven weight gain by eating right and exercising regularly.
How much does liposuction cost?
Liposuction costs vary by patient and the number of areas targeted. During your initial consultation Dr. Karlinsky will provide you with a detailed treatment plan outlining all costs. Her compassionate and knowledgeable staff is available to handle all of your scheduling needs and questions.
