FDA Approves Natrelle 410 Breast Implant

Following seven years of research, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday the approval of the Natrelle 410 breast implant. These silicone gel-filled implants, used for 20 years in Europe and Canada, are anatomically shaped to provide more natural breast enhancement results for women of all ages.

Dr. Karlinsky is pleased to offer these proven safe breast implants for cosmetic breast augmentation. The anatomical shape of the Natrelle implants creates a more natural-looking, curved breast. Additionally, the Natrelle implant contains a more cohesive gel filler that enhances uniformity.

Women have the option of traditional, rounded breast implants or a naturally-sloping implant.

Based on research conducted by Allergan, the maker of Natrelle breast implants, 96.5% of patients remain satisfied with their Natrelle 410 implant seven years after augmentation.

Ultherapy Uplift, not a Facelift

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Ultherapy Full Neck

Treatment.

Last month, the Ulthera® system received FDA approval to non-invasively lift lax tissue on the neck and submental area. For years, we’ve heard about the significant concerns patients have with sagging skin under their chins and on their neck. Now Ultherapy has a treatment to address this issue – in a single session with no downtime.

The Pre-Facelift

Ultherapy is the only FDA approved procedure to Lift, Tone and Tighten loose skin on the brow, neck, and under the chin.

This is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses ultrasound without disturbing the surface of the skin. It heats the tissue below the surface to naturally stimulate and create new collagen.

On the Upside, there is No downtime!

Liposuction, benefits may go beyond what we expect!

Liposuction is the fourth most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in America and that may increase due to its enumerated benefits! A new study shows that Liposuction may also be good for the heart.

Liposuction has always been known for eliminating body fat but a new study has been conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons that it may do more than just that. The level of triglycerides which are chemical formations of animal & vegetable fat, cholesterol and white blood cells which are associated with heart attacks, obesity, strokes and hypertension in the body, may be reduced thanks to the cosmetic procedure, Liposuction. A significant number of people that have undergone Liposuction have shown to become somewhat healthier people after the procedure due to the removal of fat, resulting in lower numbers of triglycerides and white blood cells. Liposuction not only enhances our body but may improve our cardiovascular and metabolic health due to partial removal of these chemicals and fat.

Although, more research is being done to definite these studies, at New Look New Life Surgical Arts we believe that Liposuction, like many other cosmetic procedures help motivate patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Establishing a healthy diet and following a routine of exercise is always the way to start!

No time. No Energy. Ion Magnum –The effortless workout.

How do I know it will work for me?

The Ion Magnum is a non-invasive body sculpting treatment that works for people of any age and any weight. No diet required and no side effects!

If you’re looking to reduce inches, treat cellulite, lift hanging skin, enhance your work-outs at the gym, need a boost to start a diet or workout or just miss your old figure and want it back, then the Ion Magnum is the treatment for you. This machine is scientifically proven to flex and build muscle, improvement in blood flow, release hormones that burn fat, reduce fat in specific areas and more.

How the Ion Magnum Works – “It’s comfortable, painless but effective!”

The Ion Magnum uses electrical current to stimulate muscles. The electrical current improves your nerve connection to your muscles. It also improves the body’s ability to release growth and thyroid hormones. When coming in for your treatment, you will be asked to lie down and will then be wrapped comfortably in electrodes. After being wrapped, the therapist will power the machine on and you will begin to feel contractions of your muscles The machine consists of different levels and frequencies. The levels are set to your fitness and can be adjusted throughout your treatment.

The Ion Magnum can be useful for people who cannot exercise as much due to:
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • Lymphatic conditions
  • Post Orthopedic surgery

Contradictions to the treatment include:
  • Pregnancy
  • Pacemaker or other metal implants
  • History of epilepsy or seizures

Can this treatment be combined with other cosmetic treatments?

Yes, in fact it is recommended to do the Ion Magnum and Zerona laser treatment in conjunction for the best results. The Zerona treatment works by draining fat cells and liquefying the fat. That makes it easy for the fat to leave the cell and be released from your body. The Ion Magnum enhances this effect because it also helps with lymphatic drainage and filtering waste. The treatments together remove, waste, dead blood cells, pathogens and toxins.

Personal Experience by Susan (Ion Magnum Therapist)

“I tried the machine for the first time and instantly thought to myself, this is unlike any other treatment. You actually feel it working; you’ll see your muscles moving right in front of your face. After a 30 minute treatment, I quickly put on my clothes and felt a difference in my physique. I felt as if I hours at the gym in just 30 minutes and the best part is, all I did was lay there!”

“The feedback that I’ve gotten from patients who have done the Ion Magnum treatments have all been very pleased with the feeling, the results and its effects. The way the treatment is described depends on the individual. It’s mainly described as a deep tissue massage. I even had patients come back after a few sessions and tell me that they’ve been shopping for new clothes, smaller sizes! I’ve gotten patients follow up and state that they’re more energetic, their athletic performance has been better, they’re able to take care of their children without feeling fatigued, they sleep better at night and just have this explanation of FEELING GOOD!”

A great number of people who have undergone some sort of cosmetic surgery, seeking to augment their physical features, have claimed that they are more content with their lives and themselves.

Do what makes you happy! When you feel the time is right, take action and feel confident because the longer you wait to fix your problems, the more they over come you and they may affect your health. Looks Are Important But So Is Your Health

Botox and Dysport Beyond just the look

Botulinum toxin injections have been around for many years and they are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure done in the United States. Cosmetically, Botox and Dysport are used to temporarily paralyze the injected muscle for facial improvement and value, giving your face the young look you’ve always wanted!

“Botulinum Toxin is only for cosmetic use, why do I need it?”

Many people believe that Botox and Dysport are only used for clients who are interested in that young look again but in fact, they can be used to treat a number of medical conditions.

Blepharospasm: an eye twitching disorder – has been treated using a small amount of Botox to relax the muscles around the eye, which provides relief of the twitching. This has been FDA approved for children.

Strabismus: commonly referred to as “lazy eye” or “cross eyes”: when the muscles around the eye don’t work properly or when an overactive muscle is paralyzed. Botox injections cause the remaining muscles to function properly which improves the persons vision.Botox therapy is safe enough to use on infants and children and is a good alternative to surgery for children.

Cerebral Palsy: Which effects muscle tone, movement and motor skills. Botox is injected into the spastic and dystonic muscles which will reduce the stiffness in a person’s body. Reducing the stiffness with Botox will actually improve a person with Cerebral Palsy’s range of motion. Improved range of motion helps Physical Therapists stretch muscles with less of a struggle and less pain.

Cervical Dystonia: A painful condition in which muscles in the neck and shoulders cramp severely, causing an abnormal positioning of the head. After Botox is injected into the muscles, spasms and muscle tightening is reduced.

Hiperhydrosis: Also known as excessive sweating; has been treated with Botox injections and is becoming very common. Injectable’s used under the armpit block the chemical transmitter that causes sweating and has generally been a successful treatment for many patients.

Migraines/Headaches: A severe vascular headache; a discomfort we experience in our everyday lives– Injections can be used in the fore head, in the eye brow area, side of the head and other locations. Botox injections for headache and migraine use have reported to be 80-85% effective.

There are several other medical conditions that are being treated today with the proper care of Botox and Dysport such as: Stroke Victims suffering from muscle spasms, people diagnosed with TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) which is a group of problems involved with the jaw joint. TMJ can cause jaw or ear pain, discomfort when chewing, stress and constant gum chewing or nail biting, etc. Many people rely on botulinum toxin to improve their lives, other than just for cosmetic purposes.

Some of the conditions listed above may not be treated at our center due to the need of special medical attention.

Cosmetic Surgery: Luxury or Necessity?

One of the most common questions I get asked during my initial consultation with a new patient is: "Doctor, what do you think I need?”  My response is always the same:  “I don’t think you need anything, the question is what bothers you when you look at yourself in the mirror and what “problem” brought you here today to see me."

Our appearance has always been a very important part of who we are, how we are perceived and how we are treated.  We tend to form our first impressions about people we meet based on the way they look, and it is no secret that people who are thought to be more attractive tend to get treated better and sometimes get away with things which an “average looking” person would not.

A recent study published in Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences finds that the pleasant appearance of interviewees can significantly influence the outcome in hiring practices, showing a clear distinction between the attractive and average looking interviewees in terms of high and low status job packages offered. "When someone is viewed as attractive, they are often assumed to have a number of positive social traits and greater intelligence," say Carl Senior and Michael J.R. Butler, authors of the study.

So, is Cosmetic Surgery a luxury or necessity?  I think the answer stems not from how attractive a person is, but how confident.  A wise man (or woman) once said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, and I could not agree with that more.  Although our society tends to impose the standards of beauty on us, we all know that what may be very attractive to one is not always as attractive to the other.  For that reason, I am a firm believer in self-confidence.  When a person looks at him or herself in the mirror and is pleased with what they see, it automatically translates into a great positive energy of self-esteem and poise which in turn gets transferred onto others, who then see you as a strong, healthy and smart individual, making you a successful member of this society.

This is where Cosmetic Surgery comes to be a necessity.  It will allow you to eliminate or greatly improve things about your body which have always been, or recently have become an object of your anxiety and discontent.  May it be wrinkles on your face, which you think appeared much too early or pesky fat on your thighs which just does not want to go away no matter how much you diet or exercise.  It may be that you are a young mother who has had several children and your body is just not the same anymore, but you desperately wish to get your breasts back where they used to be and that flat abdomen you used to have before child bearing.

By addressing such issues, you will once again be able to look at yourself in the mirror and be happy and secure.  When thinking about Cosmetic Surgery, it is important to answer to yourself if you want to do this for you, or is it because someone (family or friends) keeps telling you that you need to do something. Any procedure you decide to undergo must be strictly for yourself and no one else.  This is the only way you will truly be happy with the improvements that you make on your body.

It is important to remember that any Cosmetic Procedure, large or small, always has some risks and potential complications.  It is imperative that your doctor reviews in detail possible issues that you may have to deal with after the procedure is done.  Although, complications are very rare in the world of Cosmetic Surgery, they do exist and you must know about them in great detail before committing yourself to an operation.

It is also very important to choose a doctor with whom you feel comfortable and whom you trust.  There is allot of emphasis these days on Board Certification, and although it is a very important criteria of the physician’s training, it is not the only thing that should make you believe that the doctor will do a great job for you.  Speaking to patients who have had surgery already and can share their experiences with you can be very helpful.  With the internet so widely available, you can always do a search on the doctor’s background, law suits and professional affiliations.  Do not hesitate to ask the doctor about his or her training and experience.

During the consultation you should be able to see a few examples of the procedure you are looking to undergo, although it is important to remember that the picture is not you, what you see is not necessarily the same way you will look after surgery. You must have realistic expectations about the procedure and above all you must have the confidence in your doctor. Should there be a complication or a problem, you have to know that your doctor will be there for you day or night, taking care of you until the problem is resolved. Remember, Cosmetic Surgery is SURGERY NOT A DAY AT A SPA!

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that can affect certain areas of the body such as arm pits, hands and feet. This condition is characterized by excessive sweating. Localized injections of the Botulinum Toxin type “A” prevents the sweat glands from producing excessive amounts of sweat and in most cases eliminates it completely.

What is the Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that affects 3 to 5% of the population.  Although not harmful, it often becomes a source of embarrassment for many people. Hyperhidrosis usually manifests itself during puberty and it follows the patient throw his/her entire life.  Anxiety or nervousness can greatly worsen someone’s sweating as a result making an uncomfortable situation worse.

Why Treat Hyperhidrosis?

Excessive sweating is a source of discomfort and embarrassment for many people. Constant wet stains on one’s clothing or chronically wet palms can make a person’s professional and personal life very difficult.  The solution is simple, effective and noninvasive thanks to Botulinum Toxin Type “A” (Botox).  After only one treatment with Botox the area in question will seas to produce sweat leaving you dry and comfortable.  The results can become evident as fast as 24 hours after injection but the full effect is reached 5-7 days post injection.   There is no recovery period, and only minimal discomfort associated with this procedure.

Treatment

The effects of the treatment last for four months at a time.  If you are one of the persons affected by this condition, we welcome you to schedule a complementary consultation at our clinic.
